Cracked windshield, foggy headlight, broken side glass, all of it happens in the UAE more than people expect. Stones flick off the highway, sun yellows the headlight plastic, and dust gets behind seals. We do car glass and headlight work at Al Bedaya Garage, same shop where we service everything else, so you don’t have to chase a separate specialist.

What does car glass and headlight repair cover?

Three main jobs:

Windshield repair or replacement. A chip smaller than a 2 dirham coin can be repaired with resin injection, no replacement needed. Anything bigger, or a crack that’s spread, means a full windshield replacement. We use OEM-spec glass with proper urethane bond.

Side and rear glass replacement. Door glass, rear screen, quarter glass. We supply and fit.

Headlight restoration. UAE sun yellows and clouds the plastic on most headlights by year 4. We sand, polish, and re-clear-coat them so they’re factory clear again. Cheaper than replacement, looks the same.

If you want a brand-new headlight assembly because the existing one is cracked or damaged, we supply and fit those too.

How much does car glass and headlight repair cost in the UAE?

Windshield chip repair (resin): AED 100 to AED 200
Windshield replacement: AED 600 to AED 2,500 depending on car and whether you have ADAS sensors (lane assist, auto-brake) that need recalibration
Side door glass replacement: AED 350 to AED 900
Headlight restoration (per side): AED 100 to AED 250
Headlight assembly replacement: AED 400 to AED 4,000+ depending on the car (LED matrix lights on luxury cars are pricey)

We give you the quote after we’ve checked the part and confirmed sensor needs. ADAS recalibration is what trips up most other shops.

How long does the work take?

Chip repair: 30 minutes
Windshield replacement: 2 to 4 hours (plus 1 hour cure time before driving)
Headlight restoration: 1 to 2 hours per side
Side glass: 1 to 2 hours

For windshields we ask you to leave the car for half a day so the urethane sets properly. Don’t drive away with wet adhesive, the seal won’t hold at speed.

When should I replace the windshield instead of repair?

Three rules of thumb:

Crack longer than 15 cm: replace, not repair
Chip directly in the driver’s line of sight: replace (repair resin can still distort vision)
Cracks reaching the edge of the windshield: replace (structural integrity is gone)

Anything else, a chip the size of a fingernail in the middle of the glass, that’s a repair job. AED 150 and you keep your factory seal.

What does this mean for you? Don’t ignore a chip in summer. UAE temperature swings from 18°C overnight AC to 50°C in the parked sun will crack it within a week.

What we’ve learned from 25 years of UAE glass work

Two things kill windshields and headlights in this market faster than anywhere else:

Roadwork debris on highways. Construction trucks dropping stones at speed. We see one chip per car per year on average for highway commuters. Drive 50 metres behind trucks, not 10.

Headlight plastic UV failure. UAE sun destroys polycarbonate. By year 5 most cars have hazy headlights, which means your night driving range drops by 30 to 50%. A AED 150 restoration brings it all back. Plenty of cars don’t need new headlights, they just need the haze removed.

We had a customer (commuter from Sharjah to Dubai daily), windshield chip in March, ignored it through April and May. By June the crack ran across the whole glass. The repair would have been AED 150 in March. The replacement was AED 1,400 in June, plus ADAS recalibration at AED 400 because his car has lane assist. Total AED 1,800 instead of AED 150.

FAQ

Will my insurance cover windshield replacement? Comprehensive policies usually cover it. Some have glass cover as a free benefit, some have an excess. Check before paying out of pocket. We do direct billing with most major UAE insurers.

Does ADAS recalibration matter? Yes, if your car has lane-keep, auto-brake, or adaptive cruise. The cameras and sensors sit on the windshield. After replacement they need recalibration or the systems won’t work, or worse, will work wrong. We do this on-site.

Can you restore yellow headlights, or do I have to replace them? 99% of the time, restoration works. We sand off the failed clear coat, polish the plastic, and apply a new UV-protective clear coat. Results last 18-24 months. New assembly only needed when the plastic is cracked, not just yellowed.

Will the new windshield leak or whistle? Not if it’s bonded properly. We use OEM-spec urethane and let it cure before delivery. Customer complaints about wind noise after windshield replacement are almost always a bad seal from a rushed installation.

Do you fit OEM glass or aftermarket? Both, depending on what you ask for. OEM costs more, has perfect optical clarity. Aftermarket is fine for older cars and saves 30-40%. We’re upfront about the difference.
